The 2002 Toad Festival will be on Saturday, October 26th. The cost of the event is $45.00, which includes a t-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, and prizes. Participants compete in games of chance and skill (darts, cards, helmet toss etc.) at several points along the 27-mile course. Mail Bag
Don,
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your article "I have a dream," read in the June issue of Smoke Signals.
As a new transplant from Orange County (which I miss very much by the way) to Boise, I am even more appreciative of the reality and necessity for ALL users of our recreational lands to work together.
I believe that the good relationship between all trail users is the basis for our goals to protect our access; and I feel it starts with ME. This means with my attitude and how I conduct myself. If feels very good to show politeness, consideration, and emphasize commonalities with other users (motorcycle riders, other mountain bikers, hikers, runners, etc).
As Mr. Keith Eckstein of the Warriors Society said to me in an e-mail response to my statement that there sure are many users in the foothills system here: "Many users are a good thing, DK". NOW, I fully appreciate what he meant!
It is very good to see Chris Vargas and Warriors have outreached so much nationally and developed strong relationships with organizations such as the BRC (shared goals).
It also aids my "home sickness" to know and see that they (Warriors and my friends back home) have some good connections to people such as your self here in the beautiful state of Idaho.
And what a beautiful state this is.
I have been fortunate enough to enjoy incredible riding in the Ridge to Rivers system, and the national forests - Boise, Sawtooths, and Payette, which only emphasizes the importance of what the Warriors are doing back in California. I am planning to get involved in the local chapter of SWIMBA here, and learn, and contribute.
With respect and appreciation,
Daryl King
Trail Work
Our last trail work event was June 1st, National Trails Day.
We worked with Jim Meyer and Trails4All, (www.trails4all.org)
who were doing the annual Canyons Cleanup.
This is a major project that Jim did a great job in organizing. Many groups and individuals participated, including ETI, Girl and Boy scouts, various company employees, canyon residents and many, many more.
We did several trail projects during the day also, removing poison oak from the Trabuco Creek Trail, as well as brushing the Joplin and Bell Ridge Trails. Jim Simescu prepared a great lunch for those in the Trabuco Canyon area and all in all it was a great day.
We will have several other brushing projects also during our 2002-2003-trail work season and we hope you can make it out and donate your time to help keep the trails maintained.
We will have our preliminary trail work schedule out in late September and will be e-mailing those on our e-mail lists with the dates. We expect our first trail work event to take place in early October.
