04/03/13 Vision Quest and Counting Coup Event Update

To all participants:

As some of you know since last Sunday there are two hikers lost on the Holy Jim Trail. As of yet we do not know if this will affect the event or if the event will have to be rescheduled.

We are in contact with the Forest Service and will let you know as soon as we do if we may need to reschedule.

This is a good lesson for all of us who venture into our back country. Although the Warrior’s Society goes far beyond the Forest Service requirements when it comes to support, i.e. 5 paramedics on the course instead of the required 1 and communications/support teams spread throughout the course we still need you to be prepared in the event you are injured.

Due to the remoteness and technical nature of the trails, we recommend you always carry a whistle and small space blanket with you. The space blanket, which ways a couple of ounces and can be purchased at REI, can keep you warm or be used as a sun block in the event you are hurt or crash off the trail where you can’t be seen. Likewise , if that situation does occur, a whistle’s sound will carry farther and last longer than you yelling for help. We track all riders as they progress on the course and can determine on what section you are missing and if you do suffer such an incident, finding you will be much easier.

On another note, we will have a catering truck at the finish venue until 2:00 so your family and friends can purchase lunch (participants will be fed El Pollo Loco).
