Damage to the Trails in the Trabuco District

1. Holy Jim Trail: the junction at the cutoff that leads to the falls is eroded but passable. There is also some scouring in the switchbacks before you cross the canyon. Where you cross across the canyon there are a couple of areas where the trail is damaged but easily passable. The top 3rd of the trail was brushed on January 29th and we will be having a major trail work event on Saturday, February 12th to address this damage, install grade stabilizers and brush the remaining portions of the trail.

2. Trabuco Canyon Trail: Erosion damage from October 2004 and January 2005 storms were repaired by the Warrior's Society on January 29th. 12 grade stabilizers were installed in the trail bed to prevent the scouring caused by heavy rains. 10 +- water bars were also installed and the trail brushed.

3. San Juan Trail: scouring running down the middle of many sections of the trail and trail failure on down slope of trail. Washout on the trail 1 1/2 miles up from the San Juan Hot Springs Trail Head where it was previously loose and unstable.

4. Chiquita Trail: tree down and major scouring damage to trail bed. Parts of the trail are washed out.

5. Viejo Tie Trail: Bolder blocking trail and trail bed failure.

6. Los Pinos Trail: not yet evaluated

7. Joplin Trail: not yet evaluated

8. Silverado Motorway: OK

Damage to Roads in the Trabuco District

1. Road that goes west from Sierra Peak to Chino Hills State Park gate: Mud slide / about six feet are missing from the road.

2. Skyline Truck Trail: in good condition if no more rain; but if we get rain this could change.

3. Main Divide Road from Beek's Place to Santiago Peak: OK

4. Bedford Truck Trail: OK with the usual, small rocks on road.

5. Maples Springs Road: a major washout above the paved section - please be extremely careful when riding down Maples Springs so you don't collide into this washout.

6. The Main Divide Road from Santiago Peak south heading to the Holy Jim Trail: 3 big slides blocking road that you have to hike a bike over. There is also a washout you have to hike over 100' north of where the Holy Jim Trail Junctions with the Main Divide.

7. Main Divide Road from the Holy Jim Trail to the Trabuco Trail: minor slides that you can ride around.

8. Main Divide Road and Long Canyon Road from Blue Jay/Ortega to the Trabuco Trail: OK

9. Indian Truck Trail: 3 slides, rock, mud, and a couple of good size boulders on the road.

10. South Main Divide from OHV to Tenaja Trail Head: 1/4 mi. from creek crossing a couple of boulders have fallen on the road but passable by foot or bike.

11. Black Star Canyon Road (a county primitive dirt road leading into the National Forest and the first climb in our Pow Wow Events): Several slides but passable.

If you encounter any new slides, debris blocking the roads, washouts etc. do us a favor write it down; what type of damage, the location, and if at all possible take a digital photo so that we can pass it on to the Forest Service for repairs.
